Log: Gwen and Peter

The lab was quiet, with just enough background noise from the hum of all the equipment to keep the room from disconcerting silence. That was why Gwen liked studying there, giving herself plenty of space to spread out on the lab benches that were wider than standard tables. Most people found the stools dotted around the room uncomfortable, but she was so used to perching on them as she worked that it almost felt strange sitting anywhere else.

It was after nine, and Gwen was so focused on the problem set she was working on for calculus that she didn't notice it was already dark and the students who had been using the other tables in the lab for their own studying had long since gone home. Luckily she had her own key, letting her stay as late as she wanted without making the custodians wait around to lock up behind her.

It's just that sometimes the only place Peter felt comfortable was the lab. It's just that science makes sense to Peter when the rest of world doesn't, which is it's own special kind of irony, right, because science is literally the foundation of the entire world and everything in it, but that's just the way things are. Peter even has a fondness for the way those awful stools give him a rousing dose of butt-numbness. It keeps him on his toes. Actually, it keeps him still on his butt because he can't feel it, but close enough. Peter was never so immersed, though, that he didn't notice the beautiful blonde girl with the same addiction to weird-smelling, clinical rooms, and he wasn't going to talk to her late at night when they were alone, because he's not a creep, but he did, as he was near the door about to leave, say quietly, like they weren't alone in there but rather two people sharing a comfortable silence, "G'night...."
