Brian--at home
Betsy was on the couch flipping through magazines--work research, absolutely!--when the door to the apartment opened. Brian wasn't even completely inside before she asked, "Who's Meggan?" with a knowing smile. She hadn't even looked up.
She hadn't looked for that information, either. It wasn't her fault the name was practically screaming at her the second he walked in.

But come on, he was barely even in the door! Brian laughed and rolled his eyes and sort of went red around the ears (probably the closest thing to blushing he ever really did). "You tell me," he said, throwing himself down next to Betsy, affectionately ruffling her hair.

She closed her magazine and swatted at him with it. "No, that's no fun. I want to hear you tell it." Besides, the fun things, the happy things, the good things--those should be spoken out loud. They had enough secrets locked away in those heads of theirs.

Brian laughed his easy, good-natured laugh and grabbed at the magazine, pretending for a moment to read it. Then he closed it and handed it back to Betsy, smiling. "Meggan is a florist and she's a genius. An artist or something. I walked into that shop and said, I need flowers, and it was like she replied, yes, but what's inside your heart?" Brian knew that wasn't very like himself, but it was true. He didn't need to mention that Meggan was gorgeous; Betsy could figure that out for herself.

"Well that's certainly one way to make a first impression." It meant this Meggan was either painfully sincere or woefully pretentious, and Betsy was fairly confident Brian would be able to see through the latter. "Did you bare your soul to the pretty florist, then?"

Brian laughed. He knew it sounded silly, implausible, painfully romantic – all very much not Brian things – but that was part of the excitement. "I did! I mean, within reason. Upon further reflection it's possible she read my mind. Either way, I went in there to get flowers for three people and left having crossed my girlfriend off the recipient list..."
Well, girlfriend was too strong a word for the girl he was seeing. But still. He had girlfriends on the brain.

'Read my mind' was a phrase thrown casually around in some households, but not theirs. They knew better. "Wait, do you actually think she's a telepath?" As much as it amused her to see Brian genuinely twitterpated, Betsy was way more interested in this girl possibly sharing her powers.

Brian thought about it. How was Meggan so able to recreate Brian's specific, complex feelings into bouquets. "Maybe? I don't know, can you tell if someone else has been in there?" It seemed like it could be true. Brian wasn't especially easy to read, and he couldn't get over how exactly right the flower arrangement Meggan had made for Betsy had been; he was dying for her to see it.
